pictures are annoying
I've been trying to upload the pictures I took from Quebec, but it is annoying. I think I need to edit all of them for size. Grrr.

Screw the pictures, I have angst
So, my provisional supervisor asked for a provisional title of my provisional thesis. I sent him a rambling message about how I couldn't just now. In part it is because I haven't actually you know, decided on a topic. In part it is 'cause I have too much work ahead of me with beer gardens and the crazy number of shows coming up. I promised him something soonish. So what am I going to write about? The Nominees are... Ethnicity Writers in Canada are frequently forced to deal issues of ethnicity if they are not of the founding ethnicity. Writers like Joy Kogawa and Suzette Myer wind up defending their Canadian identity... we expect ethnic writers to write ethnic stories and wonder why they don't, if they don't. This will be hard to prove or handle, but I've got some stuff towards it already. How to choose which writers, exclude others, and aren't I making just as big of a deal with ethnicity? Dystopian Fiction I wrote a paper for Braz on dystopian fiction which he seemed to enjoy. He said I made good points and could build on it. This would give me the opportunity to combine politics and literature. I could focus on Jack Womack and worship him thru thesis. This is hard because I don't have anything specific in mind. But I have time and there is a large body of lit on the topic - although that is also a problem because I'm not doing anything new. Unless I do Womack, as I haven't seen anything on him. Monsters as Border Identity This is cool, would allow me to look at werewolves and vampires and is pop culture and light, but could be, you know, like deep. The problem here is that I haven't read enough on the topic, don't know anything and would be starting utterly and totally fresh. Gender roles in noir As we were speaking about the creative writing course that will not fulfill my course requirements but he thinks is utterly cool, he asked what I wanted to work on. I told him my interest in writing a lesbian noir style story playing with gender roles/butch femme and such. (different from our plan H) He asked why I didn't just focus my thesis on that, as I would be doing research for the story, could use the same research for both... and because I clearly have an interest in gender roles. The problem here is... I don't know much about noir, although I do have a paper on butch/femme from my undergrad. What do you think? Weigh in now, before the bitching begins. What do you wanna hear about for however long it takes me to write a thesis? I eagerly await your opinions. I follow what you say. If you disagree, I will simply write two, or even three thesiseseseseseses d. |
