Once upon a time... no, wait ... it was a dark and stormy night

makes a girl stop and think
So, I just finished doing something nice and good. I can't really tell you about it because it entails my secret ninja of death job. But what I did doesn’t really matter. ffice What matters here is that I just totally made a huge sacrifice and it feels kinda good. Like I’m proud of myself and there is this sneaking suspicion that being sarcastic and nasty all the time isn’t necessarily where it’s at. Not that I think I’m about to suddenly stop hating people. I rather enjoy my anti-social tendencies. But I might try out this ‘being nice to people’ thing more often. What do you think? |

The strangest thing happened last night
So, as Kvitsh was off getting cut, I filled in for her on Liza's Pills. It wasn’t really like being a DJ because I was playing all her music and didn’t have to deal with the knobs and buttons. I was terribly nervous to begin with. And when I, being the silly wench I am, mentioned this to S and Babe Lloyd, they both laughed loud and long. It was nice to see – heads thrown back with glee. Well, it would have been better if it hadn’t been directed right at me. ffice Still, the night was fun. I talked a lot – appalled Babe by saying on air that H was in the hospital for the ol’ slice and dice. I answered the phone a million times. Well, maybe just a dozen but still, that is a lot of calls for the 3 to 6 slot. The people were nice, albeit drunk, although I was hardly able to find any of their requests. I might try it again next week. |

Moral quandry
I’m part of the tutor registry at the U of A, meaning if students need help with certain subjects, they can contact me for help. Some of the students I’ve worked with have been wonderful – like the Computer Science student who needed to pass English 101 and worked really hard at it. Others have been frustrating – like the one who wrote for a paper on Before Night Falls that in Cuba “there were camps for homosexuals” which makes it sound like facials and sing-alongs. ffice Anyway, I just received a call from a young lad in need of aid. Was it tutoring you may ask? Help editing a paper? No, he wanted me to write a paper. When Kvitsh faced this problem over the summer, I told her to go for it – some chick needed help with a basic business course which Kvitsh can do in her sleep, as well, the K-babe was rather strapped for cash. Now, Kvitsh went on at length about the wrong-ness of this – the chick will likely need these skills, which is why the school has her in this course. As well, why get credit for someone else’s work? And, over time, I’ve come to agree more and more with her. I’m noticing in grad school some students who always hand in work late, are never really prepared and just coast along. These people are wasting my time by not being able to discuss things in class and by explaining these convoluted stories to profs about why their work isn’t done. It annoys me. So, when this lad called I said rather abruptly that what he was asking was illegal and I wouldn’t do it. He said okay and didn't seem at all put out. Kinda suspect he's just off to phonethe next person. In part, it is because of the reasons listed above. But in part it is also because I have a bunch of shifts coming up for the ninja death squad, and simply don’t have time. I need the money, but I also need some time to myself. But the more I think about it, the more annoyed I am that some students want to drift along on the backs of other students. It speaks to the problem of having tuition set so high – this is a student who can afford to pay someone to do his work in addition to the cost of school, knowing full well there are students broke enough to be tempted. And as I get angrier, I get more vindictive, thinking thoughts like “I should have got his full name and what school he goes to so I could call them to let them know.” What would you have done? Just said no? Go the extra step to get the kid in trouble? Take the money and keep your mouth shut? |

For you, Chris
And for anyone who reads this without regularly looking at Kvitsh, here you go. Heather has a super cool new scar, which she has drawn remarkably well on her site. She gets tired easily but has been pretty plucky about the whole tearing open of her neck.ffice My cat, Gavriel, is still not doing wonderfully. I am now marking on a calendar how frequently he spews. S says it is time to have him put down, but people start saying that within minutes of meeting my cat and having him taste their blood. S is done school and isn't working over the holiday. This means he is lurking around. He's bored but at that point of boredom where he doesn't wanna do anything. Which is driving me nuts because I have tonnes to do and too much work - I'd love to trade him for a couple of days. That being said, he did help with the baking today and made something all by himself. I was proud. Which sounds patronizing and I apologize - he's never baked before and we were in a rush and he held up under the stress wonderfully. I've been asked to be an RA for the next term. More on that later. And we leave to visit my mother in two days. Without doubt there will be more on this. must run - am terribly behind on tonight's ninja death squad work due to a power nap that got out of control. |
