I have trouble believing this
Thanks to K’vitsh and her amazing ego, I’ve found out that I am being plagiarized. Only, rather oddly. What this means, I assume, is that my blatherings will be sent out to get past a spam blocker. Which is really funny, as the last time K’vitsh wanted to talk about this it was fucking Tolstoy!
Please, do go take a look at this and tell them they are two feet past crazy land.
And maybe later I will tell you about my weekend. |

Knob-twiddling
While K'vitsh is roaming the Scottish moors, I’ve been taking care of her radio show Liza’s Pills . The lovely Dylan is recording these for me and then I forward the link to a few people I think might enjoy. This comment came from one loyal listener... I am considering having Human Rights Charges laid against Sherpa Girl for the cruel and inhuman torture foisted upon her listeners by the comparison contest. Forcing us to listen to William Shatner "sing" goes beyond the Inquisition. Those who voted it the "best" version are obviously "running dogs" of Sherpa Girl. They must be hunted down and sent to an institution for the musically inane where they will be given the standard treatment - hours and hours of listening to Rex Harrison "sing" in "My Fair Lady". This will prove to those poor lost souls that one can "speak" a song and still provide entertainment without pain. Clearly my work is done here... oh, wait. One more week and my work here is done! |

I hate my home - part x
When S and I moved in here, I did so only because he made it clear that he couldn’t bear where we were living... we’d searched around but couldn’t find anything comparable - at the time we had a nice character suite that was pretty cheap - so we moved into this hole that was very cheap with some major improvements - en suite washer and dryer plus a dishwasher - and thought about renovating. We painted last summer and that made a dramatic improvement. The problem of course, were the two MAJOR fights we had while working together that almost ended our relationship. One had to do with where to put the bookcases and the other was sheer frustration that the last room we were painting didn’t seem to be taking the colour very well. The rooms I did myself were fine and there was no screaming, plus he’s never complained about the ... accidents ... where I dropped paint on the floors, wasn’t un sloppy in places and so forth. We had to replace the dishwasher this summer which was another nightmare although not near as terrible as the bookcase incident. And when it was over with, he thanked me for taking the initiative and getting the project going. He admitted he would never start so it was good that I did. Well, there are two more things that need to be dealt with. The minor one is the lighting. The t.v. room has a chandelier which is just plain ugly, not to mention HUGE and really, very ugly. The other project is the floor. We hate carpeting. I hadn’t had carpeting in any place I’d lived in for at least a decade and to be honest, I associate it with living with my mom. Plus, the carpet was a dirty beige when we moved in. After the water damage from the fire across the hall, much of it became a gross grayish beige. Not to mention numerous coffee and unidentified stains. We looked into hardwood floors, ceramic tiles and cork flooring (which would be super cool) but aside from being pretty expensive, will entail our installing it and almost certainly fighting. And I’m just not up for that. So we talked about simply pulling up the carpet and painting the concrete. That would give us the leeway to do whatever we wanted with the floors in the future, be easy to clean and to do and would solve one of the problems we have with the place. Plus, it may mean that K’vitsh could come over more. I shudder to think what lives in our carpets.... I mentioned again today that I want to do this before school starts. He made that vague noise men make when they don’t want to say no and said he had to go to work - I purposely did this right before he left for work so that he could think about it without my nagging or pouting. And then tonight I started doing the research into it. It looks like it will take a day for each room. And damn but I wanna start. I may get him to take me to Home Depot tomorrow so I can buy the tools we’ll need so I can just start this without him like I did with the painting. Oh, so I just pulled up the carpet in a corner of the bedroom. If I had the tools I could do it right now.... |

An hour... is too long
I planed to start working on my thesis this week and managed to do some work, although not a lot, on Monday. I’ve had a brutal headache this week, so I didn’t do anything T and W but I sat down today... told myself that I only had to do one hour of work. And I did. Monday I laid out a schedule of work, and today did today’s work and half of what I wanted to finish from Monday. I suspect that next Monday I will rejig this schedule so that I don’t start out feeling behind.
Oh, and Salon has a neat article on James Tiptree Jr for all you science ficition fans. |

Harry Potter’s guide to outsider music
I listen to CBC at work – mostly classical with not a lot of talking to distract me from what I’m doing. Tonight on Brave New Waves they did a thing on Songs from the Key of Z and the fellow was a fabulous interview. It sounded like the two of them were just geeking out and giggling and generally having a lovely time chatting. She made a dig about how his book wouldn’t sell well and he responded that he’d wanted to call it Harry Potter’s guide to outsider music… Which generally wouldn’t amuse me as much but for the fact that earlier today I was chatting with someone who is reading the last Potter book and was making smirky comments about how dark it is… How wonderful would it be to see a bunch of people picking it up because of its name and getting a good dose of outsider music? |
