why?

I find it quite amusing that I write devon with a lower case "d" and everyone "corrects" this when they write it, to give me an upper case D. Do y'all think I made a mistake and have never fixed it? Are you just so used to capitalizing that you do it without thinking? Would this happen if I used "may" or "bob" which could either be capitalized if they were names or left they way they are if not?

When people in elementary school would spell my name "heather" I'd get quite offended.
I don't know why I don't like uncapitalized names. Just my anal-retentiveness, I suppose.

I never knew it was a particular affectation, to be honest. Does it matter? I suppose that you posting about it means it does matter. OK, d, that's fine. One question, though: why ignore one grammatical rule (capitalization of proper names) but not another (ending an abbreviation, in this case "d" for "devon")?

well, I often sign my e-mails with just a d. Capitalizing my name doesn't make me so angry I pull out my hair, or anyone else's for that matter. I jsut find it curious and want to know why people do it...
