Once upon a time... no, wait ... it was a dark and stormy night

The interloper
He's very small - I'd forgotten how tiny kittens are - and quiet, although he has a strange trilling voice. Purrs like a car engine idling, and cuddles. This is the nicest part of bringing him home. Bella, having been abused doesn't like to be touched too much.
We brought him hom a week last night, and last night they both slept in bed with me - Bella was some kind of unimpressed by the the little guy. He kept following her around the house, showing her his belly and mimicking her actions. So very cute! Her responses included hissing and slinking out of the room. The only fights they've had so far, is when he falls asleep in her chair and she wants to sit in it.
We've got one problem though, and any suggestions you have internet would be appreciated. As a street kitty, Bella is prone to bingeing when she sees food. We feed her regularly, but she still believes she needs to eat it all, now. And then she pukes. Very common behavior and the fix is to feed her small portions throughout the day and don't assume she can graze like other cats do. And like kittens are supposed to. We had switched Bella to diabetic food to keep her weight down. Now that there is kitten food in the house, she IS grazing, and not puking, but she's gaining weight quickly because she is eating high fat high protein kitten food. Meanwhile, Herm will eat her diabetic food if we keep it out, and as you can feel his hip bones, this is kind of an issue.
We tried placing his food in a box with a hole small enough that only he can get in, but as a former dumpster diver Bella seems to have the ability to reach whatever she wants. Seriously, she's like the Fantastic 4 when it comes to getting verbotten food. She can open a pizza box faster than I can! So what do I do?
